AIDAluna is a Sphinx class cruise ship, owned by US based Carnival Corp and operated by AIDA Cruises. Built by Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany, she is the third ship of the class, preceded by AIDAdiva and AIDAbella, and is followed by AIDAblu, AIDAsol, and AIDAmar. The ship has a capacity of 2,100 passengers and has a gross tonnage of 69,203. AIDAluna was initially deployed in the Baltic Sea for the 2009 Summer season. In Winter 2009, she was redeployed in Canary Islands. AIDAluna has an 8 × 4.5-m poolside theater, which is a first for AIDA Cruises.

Reiseberaterin (Current Employee) says

"Viel Zahlendruck und Kontrolle. Keine Kommunikation da kein Vertrauen."

Rest.Manager (Former Employee) says

"Lust auf moderne Sklaverei? Hier war Ihr Lächeln zu Hause!!!"

Sous Chef (Former Employee) says

"Impressive innovative rapidly growing company, in some aspects too fast. High volume fast paced restaurants on board, as executive sous chef and new with the company one needs to be able to adapt to the work culture almost immediately and practically without any coaching. Hardest part of the job is to manage from day one large galley-brigades consisting of numerous nationalities and cultural backgrounds. The most enjoyable part of the job is when one has reached the stage where the teambuilding has succeeded. Cons: Very complicated pre-boarding conditions especially concerning medicals etc."

Shop Supervisor (Former Employee) says

"Als Crewmitglied auf einem Kreuzfahrtschiff arbeitet man 7 Tage die Woche mit bis zu 12 Stunden am Tag. Das stresst und macht einen krank auf Dauer. Allerdings gibt es mit netten Kollegen schon die Möglichkeit abzuschalten und sich die Destinationen anzusehen. Wer aber nicht belastbar ist, hat hier keine Chance."

Maitre'D Hotel / Bar Chef (Former Employee) says

"Aida Cruises is an exciting and challenging place to work in. You get to see the whole world for free, only if your shift permits you to do so. Living conditions are ok, your meals, utilities and accomodations are free. The negative part of working here is that you don't get paid equally as your working hours. You work 11 to 12 hrs per day x 7 days a week x 10 months under contract. No paid leaves, no HMO, no insurance and no job security. Unstable management causing different system everytime plus lack of career advancement. Cons: Low salary, no career advancement, unstable Management, no job security."

Provision Master Assistent (PMA) says

"Da AIDA unter italienischer Flagge fährt, gelten die italienischen Arbeitsgesetze, welche deutlich Arbeitgeber freundlicher sind als die deutschen Arbeitsgesetze. Cons: wenig Freizeit"

"Bezahlung für so viel Arbeit schlecht aber man lernt viel dazu"

Restaurant Steward (Former Employee) says

"I work in a German cruise ship. I am assigned in a buffet restaurant with different nationalities as my colleagues, I also experienced working on 1 of their Ala Carte restaurant.. I develop my skills as a restaurant steward in AIDA like basic communication skills of Deutsch language, working with different nationalities, working under pressure and handling costumer feedback. I work for 11 to 14 hours a day but still i enjoy working and entertaining my guest. One of the difficulties i consider is the language barrier. The amenities in the ship is great we have a crew bar, crew gym, we can also play basketball, table tennis and darts during off-duty. Cons: Language barrier that is the difficulty i consider."

"Hauptsache der Gast war glücklich. Egal wie die Mitarbeiter auch immer das geschafft haben."

"We have a 12 hours of duty per day. I learned about the bar drinks, setting up the bar, guest service and proper cleaning on the ship. The hardest part is during trans cruising or when we are going to US because of the USPH, very deep cleaning. The most enjoyable part of it is I used to travel different places. Cons: Long hours"

"It develops my skills working under pressure, my time management, patience in all aspects with crew and with the guests, my different approaches depending on the nationality of the guests. Cons: Long hours"

"Great opportunity to work in different places with different people and culture. I became more balance and I have learned to be more patient and at the same time, enjoying while I work. Cons: No rest day"
